HAVE YOU HERD?
On the heels of Marshall's opening 94-76 C-USA win over Western Kentucky on Sunday, it was another impressive effort for Coach Dan D'Antoni's team as the Herd defeated Florida Atlantic, 90-67, on Thursday at Cam Henderson Center. The Herd has won six of nine after an 0-6 start. There also was something historically significant in the triumph before a crowd of 4,577. It marked the first time Marshall has scored 90 points in back-to-back league games since its Mid-American Conference days. On March 1 and 4, 2002, the Greg White-coached Herd won at Akron, 104-87 to close the regular season. Then, in a MAC Tournament home first-round game, Marshall topped Northern Illinois, 97-93.

A WIN WOULDââ'¬Â¦

  • Be Marshall's ninth consecutive at home in conference play (dating to last season), continuing its longest streak since winning 12 in a row from 1996-98
  • Be Marshall's sixth consecutive at home, tying its longest streak since winning the final six last season
  • Continue the Herd's best start to Conference USA play since going 4-0 in 2011-12

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
FIU (8-7, 2-0) is one of four teams unbeaten in Conference USA play, alongside the Herd. The Panthers have won four consecutive games dating back to Dec. 22, and own a 2-3 record on the road. Most recently, FIU picked up a come-from-behind win (75-72) at WKU on Thursday. Saturday's contest will feature the conference's top 3-point defense (FIU, 29.5 percent) and the league's most prolific 3-point offense (Marshall, 8.6 per game).

C-USA Co-Player of the Week Adrian Diaz leads the country in blocked shots (3.6 per game), and tops FIU in points (15.7 per game) and rebounds (9.1 per game). Has six double-doubles this year, second-most in the league behind Marshall's James Kelly (seven).

The Herd leads the series, 3-1, and has never lost to FIU when playing in Huntington. The teams split last year's home-and-home series, with each squad winning on its own court. Marshall won the last meeting, 87-69, on Feb. 26, 2015.
