LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Marshall men's soccer team dropped a Conference USA match, 3-0, at 14th ranked Kentucky Sunday night.

In the first half the Wildcats came out firing with a shot less than a minute in that went high. Kentucky took the lead in the thirteenth minute as Napo Matsoso scored his seventh goal of the season.

The Marshall defense held Kentucky off the scoreboard throughout the remainder of the half. Freshman keeper Trevor Clemens made a save in the 38th minute to hold it to a one goal deficit for Marshall. The Herd managed three shots in the first half as senior Rudy Erwin had two including one on goal, and senior Tommy Trupo had one shot as well. The teams went in at the half with Kentucky leading 1-0.

The Wildcats came out in the second half the same way it started the match with a shot in the first minute that Clemens made the save. Kentucky extended its lead to 2-0 at the 60 minute mark as J.J. Williams hit his second goal of the year. Just four minutes later, UK built the lead out to three as Matsoso scored his second of the game and eighth of the season.

In the 70th minute, Marshall made a change in goal as junior Nate Himes came in for Clemens who also recorded seven saves.

COACH'S CORNER
Head Coach Bob Gray:
We played a very good team tonight. Kentucky is well organized and well coached. They got an early goal off of a free kick and that has been a problem for us. We had a chance to equalize and it unfortunately didn't go our way and that has been the way it has gone this season. We need to be able to finish.

In the second half, they got the second goal off of a mishap by our keeper and that kind of broke our backs. From there we were chasing the rest of the way. Kentucky is one of the better teams in the conference and they are ranked in the top 20 in the country. We came in here on their senior night and they were ready to go. We need to regroup.
