@HerdMSoccer Defeats NKU in Non-Conference Play

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's soccer picked up a non-conference win over the NKU Norse by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night at Hoops Family Field. Daniel Jodah and Arthur Duchesne scored for the Herd.

The first 15 minutes of the match were evenly played, as both teams attempted to create chances. The two teams each attempted corner kicks but there were no shots on goal. Herd goalkeeper Trevor Clemens made a pair of saves in a seven minute span to keep the match scoreless. Marshall's best chance was taken by Ben Norris in the 42nd minute, but was saved by NKU goalkeeper Christian Carey.

After playing to a scoreless first half, the Herd was able to strike with a pair of goals in the second half. After taking four corner kicks in the first six minutes of the half, Marshall finally put one past Carey when Trevor Starcher played a through ball to Jodah who slotted his shot past the NKU goalkeeper. It took the Herd just 12 minutes to double its lead as Arthur Duchesne scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute to extend the lead to 2-0. NKU got on the score sheet on an own goal in the 73rd minute to cut the Herd lead to 2-1, but Marshall held on for remainder of the match and earned the win.

COACH'S QUOTES

Assistant Coach Thomas Olivier:

"We were a little sluggish in the first half with our formations so we just wanted to adjust and get more numbers forward and start seeing the ball in the attacking half. So the possession and trying to probe and find pockets of spacing got better in the second half and as a result it opened things up for us a bit."

"We knew NKU was going to be hungry for a win. We knew they weren't going to quit. They always play as hard as they can. They are tough and they are hard to unlock and so we know that they were going to come at us for an entire game and that we had to play 90 minutes. Credit to them to fight hard, but we need to learn how to close out games."

UP NEXT
The Herd will welcome C-USA opponent FAU to The Vet Sunday, Sept. 25 with a noon kickoff. It will be the second conference game of the year for the Herd.
