AKRON, Ohio - The Marshall men's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match of the regular season at No. 5 Akron, Wednesday night. Senior goalkeeper Nate Himes made five incredible saves against one of the top scoring teams in the nation.
Akron ranks fifth in the TopDrawer.com rankings and No. 10 in the NCAA poll. The Thundering Herd is now 7-8-1 and the Zips improved to 13-3-1.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. As the rain began to fall, both teams fought to find their footing and to try and get some offensive momentum. Akron had six shots with just one on goal while Marshall had five shots. Himes recorded his first save of the night right as the first half clock was about to expire.
The Zips came out on the attack in the second half with 14 shots and six on goal. Akron broke through the scoreless match with a converted penalty kick in the 67th minute. The Zips scored its second goal in the 81st minute.
Freshman Lewis Knight had the lone shot on goal for the Herd. Freshman Pedro Dolabella had three shot attempts while junior Chris Taibi had two.

Marshall travels down to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on the Florida Atlantic Owls. The regular season finale is set to begin at 7 p.m.
