HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University has reached an agreement with IMG College to extend its multimedia rights partnership through 2026, the school announced Tuesday. Marshall and IMG College, partners since 1998, were in the middle of a 10-year agreement that was to conclude in 2021.
The extension provides Marshall a substantial boost in revenue and IMG with exclusive rights to various new platforms and initiatives, including the creation of Marshall's in-house athletics magazine, Thundering Herd Illustrated.
"We are thrilled to continue a longstanding partnership with IMG College," Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick said. "We share values with IMG College and know that, together, we have a bright future together in athletics. Their reputation is well known in the industry, and they do a great job of understanding our demographic and making sure that they service the needs of our corporate sponsors. We are pleased we can continue our association over the next decade."
As part of the agreement, IMG will continue overseeing exclusive management of the Thundering Herd IMG Radio Network, in-venue signage and promotions, video board features, hospitality, game day displays, digital solutions, television coaches' shows and specials, publications, social media platforms and the right to grant use of Marshall Athletics marks and logos.
"IMG and Thundering Herd athletics have had a very successful partnership that has benefited both parties and, most importantly, our fan base and athletic programs, as well as our corporate sponsors and their opportunity to strategically reach their desired target audience through an affiliation with Marshall athletics," said Aaron Goebbel, Marshall's Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs. "I am ecstatic we were able to find a way to continue our long relationship as we embark on very exciting times for Marshall athletics. There is a lot to be done and we are continuing to grow the Marshall footprint regionally and nationally."
Marshall has long been with IMG, following Wake Forest and Virginia Tech into the family nearly two decades ago.
"IMG College is thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with Marshall University and the Thundering Herd," said Tim Pernetti, President, IMG College. "We will work together to provide strong partnerships and enhanced resources to help create an awesome experience for student-athletes, fans and alumni at Marshall."
As part of the last agreement, IMG committed significant money to add two video boards to Joan C. Edwards Stadium for football and ribbon boards to the Cam Henderson Center for basketball, which enhanced the gameday experience for fans and increased revenue potential. The latest agreement allows for the possibility of IMG assisting with scoreboard needs and projects in the future, which will be mutually beneficial to Marshall athletics and IMG College.
IMG College handles the multimedia rights for nearly 80 college and university properties, including Conference USA schools Marshall, Charlotte, Rice, Southern Miss, UAB, UTEP and WKU, and regional schools like Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
