The redshirt freshman received his first weekly award in his first week of action

IRVING, Texas – Marshall men's basketball redshirt freshman guard Andrew Taylor was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Monday for his performances last week, as announced by the conference office.

After not playing in competitive action for nearly a year-and-a-half, Andrew Taylor brought a new found swagger to the Herd in his first collegiate action after becoming eligible after the first semester due to transferring from Furman. Taylor started all three games, averaging over 30 minutes, 16.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while dishing out 12 assists and recording 10 steals in a 2-1 week for Marshall. The redshirt freshman shot well during the week going 18-for-39 (46.2 percent) from the field and 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc.

The guard's week was highlighted in the Herd's road contest at Northern Iowa as he poured 27 points into the basket, grabbed five rebounds, dishing out four helpers and recording four steals to turning the ball over just one time. He began his collegiate career with a 13-point performance at Morehead State where he also had three steals.

Marshall finishes 2019 and non-conference play at the Cleveland Classic on Dec. 29 against Duquesne at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
