Elmore Named Finalist for NCAA Senior CLASS Award

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
 Marshall senior guard Jon Elmore was named as one of 10 men's basketball players to be finalists for the 2018-19 NCAA Senior Class Award on Wednesday (Feb. 6).
 
Elmore has climbed the all-time ranks in both Marshall and Conference USA history as he currently ranks as the all-time leader in program history in made three-pointers (305), assists (713) and made free-throws (628), while ranking second in points and is sitting just seven steals away from the top-five in program history as he has 155..
 
In Conference USA history, he's second in points, made free-throws and is just two assists away from surpassing UTEP's Julyan Stone's all-time mark of 714 helpers.
 
A member of the league's all-conference first team and three-time C-USA Player of the week this past season, Elmore helped the Herd to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 31 years and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory. The rising senior became the first player in league history to lead C-USA in points and assists in consecutive seasons.
 
Last season, Elmore broke the school single-season records for points (816), assists (244), free throws (232) and free throw attempts (281). During the 2017-18 season, Elmore led the team in three-pointers (98), three-point field goal attempts (275) and field goals (554), while he also led the nation in triple-doubles (two).

Of all of the players returning to college basketball for the 2018-19 season, Elmore ranked second last season in points and first in total assists.

Twenty NCAA® men's and women's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as finalists today for the 2018-19 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. 
 
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 25. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four®.
