HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's basketball (8-10, 2-3 C-USA) dropped a home contest to the Charlotte 49ers (10-5, 4-0 C-USA), 77-75, on Thursday night at the Cam Henderson Center.

"Tough loss," Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss. "All losses are tough. Got two warriors, Taevion (Kinsey) and Jarrod (West). We have to get people playing and being competitive. As poorly as we played, we're right in that neighborhood. We'll come back out after Friday."

Sophomore Taevion Kinsey poured a game-high 29 points into the basket and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the fourth double-double of his career, third of the season. The guard made 10 of his 15 shots and went 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Jarrod West had the second most points in the contest with 18 on a 7-for-17 shooting night from the field. The junior guard also dished out a game-high five assists and had a pair of takeaways.

The Herd trailed the majority of the first seven minutes of the game, but a 10-0 run with a pair of threes from Jannson Williams and four points from Kinsey put it on top 17-12 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.

The 49ers than went on a 17-2 run of its own to take a double-digit lead, 29-19, at the 5:50 mark. The team's traded buckets down the stretch as Charlotte led 34-25 at the break. Marshall went 9-for-30 (30 percent) and 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) from beyond-the-arc in the first half.

MU trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, but didn't give up in the contest. The Herd constantly chipped away at the lead and outscored the 49ers 50-43. However, the comeback wasn't enough as Marshall lost by two.

NOTES
Jarrod West is now in third place in program history with 182 steals, passing Jon Elmore's total of 181.

Marshall now has 173 steals this season along with 113 blocks.

Taylor's four steals tie a career-high set at Northern Iowa on Dec. 22.

Kinsey's 29 points are career-high. This was the sixth game of his career with 20 or more points and the third this season. He has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games.

Kinsey played 40 minutes for the fifth time in his career.
