HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – With an 83-59 victory over the Morehead State Eagles (3-4), the Marshall University men's basketball team (5-1) extended its win streak to five on Saturday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd shot 54 percent (34-for-63) from the field in the contest, its second-best shooting percentage of the season.

"That was a quality a team," Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said about Morehead State after the win. "You can tell a good coach when the players play hard for him, and they played hard. They're going to be a force in the OVC."

Freshman Micah Handlogten had quite the night as he recorded career-highs in points and rebounds with 14 of each for his second straight double-double. The center from Huntersville, North Carolina, went 6-for-6 from the field.

With 19 points, redshirt senior Andrew Taylor led Herd on his 8-for-17 shooting night from the field to go with a game-high seven assists and five rebounds.

Redshirt senior Taevion Kinsey and freshman Jacob Conner each followed with 15 points each as junior Kamdyn Curfman tallied 10.

Both sides struggled to find their shooting touch as Marshall held a 6-2 lead at the 15:53 mark. However, the Herd used a 6-0 run from 10:57 to 9:21 and a 7-0 rally capped off by a Conner dunk at the 7:02 mark to take a 12-point advantage, 25-13, its largest lead of the first half.

The Eagles chipped away at the MU advantage cutting it to 34-31 53 seconds left in the opening half of play. Taylor then hit a three-point basket with six ticks on the clock as Marshall entered halftime up 37-31.

MSU came out of the break hot as it went on a 5-0 run to cut the MU lead to 37-36 just 47 seconds into the second half. Marshall answered with a 7-0 advantage with four points from Kinsey and three from Conner to take a 44-36 lead at the 18:12 mark.

After the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run, the Herd tallied 13 of the next 15 points to take a 12-point lead, 57-45 with 12:31 left in the game. The home side led by double-digits for all except a mere 26 seconds the rest of the way.

Marshall followed with a 13-0 run from 6:32 to 4:17 with three triples by Curfman to take a 22-point advantage, 74-52, with just over four minutes left in the game. Curfman then made a free-throw with 42 seconds left to give MU its largest lead of the contest at 25 points, 83-58.
