Martin second double-double of the season, Conner career-high 15 points

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (2-2) picked up an 80-69 win in its second contest at the Cayman Islands Classic on Monday over the FIU Panthers (1-5).
"We came out with some intensity which we didn't show the first game," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said about his team's performance. "I'm real happy with Jacob Conner and how he started the game, coming out and playing freely. We played hard and with more intensity. We shot the ball better."
With 12 points and 11 rebounds, Nate Martin registered his second double-double of the season with Jacob Conner tying his career-high of 15 points. Conner went 5-of-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point.
Kevon Voyles tallied a game-high 18 points making 11 of his 12 attempts from the free-throw line. In his first start of the season, Wyatt Fricks made six of his eight field-goal attempts for 15 points.
The Panthers held a two-point lead, 8-6, at the 16:56 mark of first half, but after that it was all Herd. In the final 17 minutes of the half, Marshall held FIU to just 17 points while scoring 38 to take a 44-25 lead into the break.
FIU made a push in the second half cutting its deficit to as few as six points, but Marshall held them off for an 11-point victory, 80-69.
The Herd made 50 percent of its baskets (26-of-52) for the contest, including 51.5 percent (17-of-33) in the first half. MU was clutch at the free-throw line in the contest making 21 of its 22 attempts.
Marshall tallied 17 second-chance points off eight offensive rebounds while allowing FIU 12 on 17 offensive boards.
