Marshall’s senior guard earned the award on Jan. 16 of last season
NEW ORLEANS – Following a career-game where she scored a new personal-best 31 points, Marshall guard Aislynn Hayes has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday.
A member of the league's Preseason All-Conference First Team, Hayes had a trip to Disney to remember, grabbing nine rebounds in addition to her 31 points in the overtime victory. She added two assists and two steals in the win over Tulsa.
In the previous contest Against Penn State at the State Farm WBCA Showcase, Hayes scored nine points while adding seven rebounds and a season-best five assists against the Nittany Lions.
"Our staff is extremely proud of Aislynn Hayes for earning SBC Player of the Week honors," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "Her standout performance at the State Farm WBCA Showcase was a testament to her hard work, determination, and commitment to continual improvement on and off the court. This recognition is well-deserved, and we can't wait to see all that she'll accomplish this season!"
Hayes is averaging a league-best 18.5 PPG through the first three weeks of the season. She is also in the top-12 of field goal percentage (31%) and free throw percentage (71%).
