Anochili-Killen Becomes Herd Men’s Basketball All-Time Block Leader at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (5-4) fell 78-69 Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, North Carolina, to UNCW (7-2).
In the contest, Obinna Anochili-Killen broke Jannson Williams' program record of 196 block with five to reach 198.
"They had it rocking and when you come into this type of environments you can't shoot 10-for-24 from the line," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said after the game.
Along with his five rejections, Anochili-Killen registered seven points and five rebounds. Mikal Dawson led The Herd with 12 points on a 50 percent shooting day going 5-for-10 from the field.
Nate Martin fell a board shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds as Dezayne Mingo finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The two sides traded runs in the first seven minutes with Dawson netting a pair of threes to give MU a 13-12 lead at the 13:34 mark in the first half.
The Seahawks used a 4-0 and 6-0 run to take a double-digit lead, 39-29, with 3:31 remaining in the first half as Marshall trailed 44-34 at halftime.
All five of Anochili-Killen's blocks came in the final 20 minutes of play with the record breaker coming at the 8:40 mark.
Despite trailing by as much as 17 points, 62-45, with 12:19 left in the ballgame, The Herd fought back. The Green and White chipped away at UNCW advantage to cut the deficit to six, 72-66, after a pair of Martin layups with 48 ticks on the scoreboard.
The comeback came up just short as UNCW scored 6 of the final nine points to hold off Marshall.
The Herd outscored the Seahawks in the paint 36-34 with the bench outscoring the home side's 27-22.
