Mikal Dawson Signs with Herd Men’s Basketball

Dawson returns home to Huntington for final season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Men's Basketball head coach Cornelius Jackson announced the signing of Mikal Dawson for the 2024-25 season. Dawson, a Huntington native, transfers to Marshall for his final season of eligibility after being at Akron for the last five years.
"We're really excited to have Mikal back home here to Huntington," Jackson said. "He's an experienced player and proven winner who is a phenomenal addition to our basketball program and Herd Family!
Dawson played three seasons at Huntington High School and a year at Huntington Prep. During his junior year Huntington High, Dawson averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds a game and helped the Highlanders to a state title. He followed that with 25 points and 10 rebounds a game during his senior season in route to being named the West Virginia State Player of the Year two times, earning all-tournament team honors during both seasons.
In his lone season at Huntington Prep, Dawson tallied 1,000 points averaging 20 per game with 7.0 rebounds per contest.
After missing the 2022-23 season with the Zips, Dawson saw action in 35 games, including 13 starts, during the 2023-24 campaign. Dawson tallied 186 points and grabbing 86 rebounds with 28 steals while averaging 21.0 minutes per game.
