NEW ORLEANS – For the third time this season, a Marshall Women's Soccer player has earned a weekly Sun Belt Conference honor. Senior Angel Fowler was named the SBC Defensive Player of the Week in the league's final edition of the award for the 2025 season, the league announced Sunday morning.
Fowler scored a hat trick in Marshall's regular season finale Wednesday night against Southern Miss. The three goals were the first three of the season for one of the Herd's core center defenders.
The Sutton, London, England is the first to net a hat trick for the Herd since Abi Hugh on Mar. 28, 2021 in the covid-moved spring season. Marshall's last hat trick in a conference game was Ashley Schillig against Ball State on Oct. 25, 2002.
For a season which has featured Marshall winning its most games since 2015, it was a decade ago the last time MU had at least three weekly conference awards in a season. Fowler joins Geovanna Souza and Kajsa Ekstrom to be selected as among the league's best for a week this season.
Marshall Women's Soccer is moving on to postseason play for the first time since 2022, facing ULM in the quarterfinals from Foley, Ala. on Monday, Nov. 4 at noon eastern.
