HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics leads the Sun Belt Conference with a 92 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to the latest data released by the NCAA.
In addition to the overall student-athlete success, Marshall Athletics also tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead with seven programs posting a perfect 100 GSR – the second year in a row the Thundering Herd has been at the top of the academic sector for the SBC.
"Our student-athletes continue to show what it truly means to be part of The Herd," said Gerald J. Harrison, Marshall's Vice President and Director of Athletics. "I want to congratulate them—along with our coaches and our outstanding student success staff—for the dedication and discipline behind these impressive academic achievements. Marshall is committed to developing the total student-athlete, supported by strong alignment from President Brad Smith to our athletics leadership and coaches. We celebrate academic victories with the same enthusiasm as touchdowns, home runs, and goals because these accomplishments reflect who we are and what Marshall stands for."
Marshall's seven programs who received a perfect 100 GSR in the latest NCAA release include Women's Golf, Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's Golf, Men's Cross Country & Track, Women's Soccer, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball.
The seven programs with perfect GSRs tied with Old Dominion for the conference lead.
"I am incredibly proud to celebrate the success of our student-athletes and their accomplishments," said Kaylyn Torain, Marshall's Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. "This milestone reflects the relentless dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and academics staff. Their commitment to excellence continues to elevate the standard of what it means to be a Marshall student-athlete."
Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) indicates the percentage of freshmen who entered and received athletics aid during a given academic year who graduated within six years.
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data calculates the percentage of student-athletes who enrolled in college in a given year and have graduated within a six-year time-span.
The recently-released GSR data includes all first-time freshmen from 2018-19, plus mid-year enrollees and transfer student-athletes who received athletics aid within an institution who began college in the 2018-19 cohort.
