Herd’s 2024-25 Season Ends With Lara Check’s Long Jump Finish

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A busy 2024-25 season for Marshall Track & Field ended Thursday with Lara Check's 5.70 meter jump in the First Round of the NCAA Track & Field Championships East Prelims.
Check finished 41 out of the Top 48 in the entire East Region.
"The numbers that Lara has put up this past year shows that she is one of the best student-athletes to step foot on Marshall's campus," Director of Track & Field Keith Roberts. "This year was a huge breakout season for her and making it to the First Round of the NCAA Championship is only the beginning. Lara earned the #2 all-time mark in the indoor long jump and the pentathlon and the third-best outdoor long jump mark in school history behind two Hall of Famers. I am extremely proud of all of her accomplishments.
"We have accomplished some great things this year," Coach Roberts added. "Our kids excelled off the track leading the athletic department with the highest number of community service hours, academically we had 24 student athletes achieve 4.0 GPA's and 58 above a 3.0 GPA this spring, on the track they essentially rewrote the record books. I have been blessed to be part of more than 30 championship teams and I believe we have the student-athletes to build that culture. We won't take any shortcuts but we are on the right trajectory. I am proud of all of our kids and what they have accomplished this year."
