No. 2 Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer each host 2025 home openers this week
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – There will be a definite soccer flavor in the streets of Huntington this week as both Marshall Soccer programs open their 2025 home slates at Hoops Family Field.
The action starts on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the women's soccer team, led by head coach Rafa Simoes, takes the field against Glenville State in front of the home fans.
The Herd women's soccer team is looking to move to 2-0 on the season after opening the 2025 season last week with a dominant 3-0 win over Morehead State.
In that win, Marshall out-shot Morehead State 19-5 while getting goals from Bailey Fisher, Tiggi Gent and Marcella Alves. Goalkeeper Emma Durand made two saves in the win.
On Friday, Marshall Men's Soccer – the No. 2 team in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Association rankings – kicks off its season against George Mason at 7:15 p.m. at Hoops Family Field.
The Herd comes into the contest after an exhibition season that featured a pair of wins against Villanova and Radford plus a draw at Maryland.
Also on Friday, Marshall Volleyball gets its final tune-up of the exhibition season with a 6 p.m. match at Ohio.
It is part of a weekend where the Herd and Bobcats – two regional rivals - meet in a pair of sports as women's soccer concludes the weekend slate of games with a match at Ohio at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
