HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics closes out August with several exciting events sure to bring cheers to Herd Nation this week.
In terms of home action, Friday brings a pair of opportunities to support Marshall Athletics with the Thundering Herd Invitational in TFXC starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and Men's Soccer hosting Virginia Tech at 7:15 p.m. the same evening.
The Thundering Herd Invitational is Marshall's signature home event of the cross country calendar, bringing several regional teams to the YMCA Kennedy Center, located at Rte. 2, for the event. Women's action starts at 6 p.m. while the Men's race begins at 6:30 p.m.
Later that evening, Hoops Family Field will be rocking as Marshall Men's Soccer puts its Top-5 ranking on the line against ACC foe Virginia Tech in a high-profile non-conference match that starts at 7:15 p.m. on Friday night.
Marshall Athletics goes from rockin' at Hoops Family Field to jammin' at Joan C. Edwards Stadium as Zach Bryan brings "The Quittin' Time Tour" to Huntington for a 7 p.m. concert. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available HERE and parking will be available in all lots HERE except the Stadium Parking Lot (also known as West Lot). Â
While those events will take place in Huntington this weekend, there is also plenty of action to follow with Herd teams on the road as well, including a pair of head coaches making debuts and another program continuing a great start to 2025.
Marshall Football kicks off the Tony Gibson era at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at one of college football's most historic venues as the Herd travels between the hedges to take on No. 5 Georgia at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., in a game seen nationally on ESPN.
Herd Volleyball also kicks off the regular season portion of its 2025 season on the road this weekend when Heather Stout debuts as Marshall's head coach, leading her team into the Highlander Invitational, hosted by Radford. The Herd will play Kansas City (10 a.m.) and Eastern Michigan (4 p.m.) on Friday before meeting the host Highlanders at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
In Women's Soccer, head coach Rafa Simoes has the Herd rolling to its best start since 2009 coming off of Sunday's 2-1 win at Ohio – the first in program history in Athens. This week, Marshall Women's Soccer hits the road for two contests – a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday at Wright State and a 3 p.m. match on Sunday at Murray State.
