Marshall’s Deputy Director of Athletics honored by WV Living magazine at Wednesday luncheon
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief Financial Officer/Senior Woman Administrator Niesha Campbell was honored as a 2026 West Virginia Wonder Woman by WV Living magazine on Wednesday afternoon.
Campbell was presented the honor at the 2026 West Virginia Wonder Women Award Luncheon, which took place at Holiday Inn and Suites Charleston West on Wednesday.
With her nomination, Campbell is part of the 13th class of West Virginia Wonder Women, which WV Living bestows based on those making a difference in the Mountain State.
"We are incredibly proud of Niesha Campbell for being recognized by WV Living as a 2026 Wonder Woman," said Gerald Harrison, Marshall Vice President and Director of Athletics. "Niesha makes our athletics department better through her dedication to the Herd Mentality and the care and commitment she brings to serving others. She is a tremendous teammate who is helping us move forward on our path toward our ultimate goal: becoming the most complete athletics department in the country. This is a well-earned recognition, and we are grateful to have her as part of our Herd."
WV Living annually recognizes its class of Wonder Women by looking for those women within the Mountain State who are living boldly, bringing solutions and championing their families and communities to help build a better West Virginia for the future of the state.
"Niesha represents the very best of Marshall – a talented, purpose-driven leader who brings energy, excellence and a genuine commitment to creating opportunities for others," said Brad D. Smith, Marshall University's President. "Her impact extends well-beyond athletics, and this recognition is a wonderful reflection of the difference she is making for our students, our university and our state."
Since her arrival in Huntington, Campbell has been a key figure in developing many initiatives that strengthen Marshall Athletics' ties to the community and state, such as Herd Hospitality, while also continuing to champion Marshall's efforts to celebrate and support women in athletics through the Be Her event and the HERd Leadership Circle.
In May, Campbell was named to the Top 100 Rising AD Stars/Future Ads list by Silver Waves Media.
In addition to the initiatives previously mentioned, Campbell provides executive oversight of Marshall's $40 million+ athletics enterprise, leading strategic financial planning, revenue generation initiatives, external operations, NCAA compliance and student-athlete welfare while also serving as a key advisor and liaison for the athletic department to Marshall University and its Board of Governors.
Prior to her arrival at Marshall in Aug. 2025, Campbell brought 15 years of senior leadership experience within athletics and beyond, serving at both Austin Peay and Duke in a variety of capacities before coming to Huntington.
