Herd, Mountaineers meet for 29th time on Nov. 14 at Edwards Stadium

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football's Nov. 14 contest against App State will be a 6 p.m. kickoff at Joan C. Edwards Stadium and be shown on ESPN+, it was announced on Monday.

The announcement at the 12-day window comes as part of the television contract between the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN.

Marshall Football's annual '75' game falls on the 56th anniversary of the Marshall Plane Crash from Nov. 14, 1970, which killed all 75 persons aboard Southern Airways Flight 932 upon re-entry to Tri-State Airport after the Herd's contest at East Carolina that fateful day.

The annual Marshall Memorial Fountain Ceremony will start a full day of remembrance for Marshall Football and the community at 10 a.m. that morning at the Marshall Memorial Student Center Fountain.

Marshall's matchup with App State continues a long-standing history between the teams that dates back nearly 50 years.

The two teams met every single year as SoCon rivals from 1977 to 1996 before Marshall made its jump to Division I-A (now FBS).

After a one-year deal in 2002, the two teams have met in each of the last six seasons with the first two seasons being a home-and-home deal in 2020 and 2021 and the last four taking place in the Sun Belt Conference.

App State owns a 17-11 lead in the series but has not won in Huntington since Marshall joined FBS with the Herd winning the last four contests at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
