Randy Burnside was named Marshall University's Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in October of 2003, after six years of service in the sports information office. He serves as the primary contact and publicist for Marshall's nationally prominent football program. Burnside, a native of Hometown, W.Va., started working in the Marshall Sports Information Office in 1998-99 as a student assistant working with women's soccer, men's golf, track & field, and football game programs. Shortly thereafter he took on a graduate assistant position, before being promoted to associate sports information director where he has served as primary contact and publicist for women's and men's basketball.
During his tenure at Marshall, he has played a key role in the promotion of Heisman trophy candidates Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich, in addition to All-America basketball players J.R. VanHoose and Tamar Slay.
Burnside has worked several events including Motor City Bowls, the 2001 GMAC Bowl, and multiple Mid-American Conference Football Championship games. He also worked the 2000 NCAA Division II Men's basketball regional at the University of Charleston.
A 1995 graduate of Poca High School, he earned a B.A. in broadcast journalism from Marshall in 1999 and a M.S. in athletic administration from Marshall in 2001.
He is married to the former Michele McKnight of Scott Depot, W.Va. Michele is a 1999 and 2003 Marshall graduate. He also has one child, Braden, who was born on June 5, 2006.
