David Reed is entering his fourth year at Marshall as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. In his current position, Reed oversees all areas with regard to NCAA rules Compliance for Marshall University. He actually rejoined the athletic department in August 2003, as the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities & Operations and took over the Compliance office in January 2004. While overseeing facilities Reed was instrumental in several projects, most notably the improvements made to the Henderson Center court, renovation of the Men's Basketball offices and locker-room, and also the signage changes made with the renaming of Marshall Stadium to Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Prior to Marshall, Reed served as Compliance Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, Reed was responsible for all NCAA rules interpretations, compliance monitoring systems, NCAA waivers, rules education, and served as the department liaison to university general counsel with regard to NCAA Compliance matters. Reed has also previously served as Assistant Compliance Director and Compliance Graduate Assistant at Marshall along with having worked as a Compliance Intern at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.
A native of Beckley, W.Va., Reed attended Marshall before transferring to Mountain State University in order to accept a football coaching position at Woodrow Wilson High School (his alma mater). Reed earned a bachelor's degree in environmental studies in 1998. He went on to receive his master's degree in athletic administration from Marshall in 1999. Reed is a graduate of the prestigious Sports Management Institute and 1A Athletic Director's Institute. Reed is a member of the National Association of Athletics Compliance Coordinators (NAACC). In September 2005, Reed became the third member of his family to be inducted into the Woodrow Wilson High School Football Hall of Fame.
Reed is married to the former Angela Bowman of Gallipolis, OH who is also a Marshall graduate.
