Dr. Jose Ricard coordinates all aspects of sports medicine for the Thundering Herd, devoting much of his personal and professional time to Marshall student-athletes since 1982. Through him, a network of supportive consulting physicians is available to the athletic department, providing comprehensive coverage for Marshall's student-athletes. Dr. Ricard is an Associate Professor of Family Practice at the Marshall School of Medicine. He is Past President of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy Family Physicians, the Cabell County Medical Society, Past Chairman of the Sports Science and Wellness Institute, Past Chairman of the Sports Medicine Committee of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy Family Physicians. Dr. Ricard has been enshrined in the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame. Recently, Ricard was honored as the recipient of the Family Doc Award by his peers. A $50,000 scholarship was established in his honor for the Marshall School of Medicine.
