Marshall Athletics is pleased to welcome Kenyatta Grant as Marshall's new Cheer coach.

Grant returns to her alma mater to lead Marshall Cheer, bringing 30+ years of experience in Cheer and choreography to the position.

"I am thrilled to join the Marshall Cheer program as the new Head Coach, leveraging my experience as an MU Alumni Cheerleader to build upon the program's continued success," Grant said. "Alongside promoting academic achievement and cheer excellence, I am committed to empowering a new generation of student-athletes. I look forward to collaborating with the team and coaches to ensure we embody the pride and spirit of Marshall University."

Grant's extensive experience includes serving the last two decades as a certified cheer judge for the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission – a position in which she has reinforced state and national cheer rules while providing constructive feedback to all levels of cheer in the state since 2006.

"We are proud to welcome Kenyatta Grant back to Marshall," said Cassie Sasser, Marshall's Sport Administrator for Cheer and Marshall's Director of Facilities and Game Operations. "As an alumna and former member of our Cheer program, she understands the tradition, pride and spirit that define Marshall Cheer. Her experience, passion for student-athlete development and deep connection to this university make her the ideal leader to guide our Cheer program into its next chapter."

In addition to her work with the WVSSAC, Grant has served as an assistant cheer coach for George Washington High School since 2023 and previously spent several years as an All-Star Cheer coach and tumbling instructor.

Grant served as a Marshall Cheerleader from 1991-94 and later earned her B.A. in Political Science from Marshall in 1996, as well as her M.S. in Criminal Justice in 1999.
