Brett Arkelian enters his first season as the Special Teams Quality Control Coach with Marshall University in 2020. His duties include overseeing the specialists operations, identifying opposing teams’ special teams schemes, coverages, and tendencies by formation, down and distance, field zone, personnel, and game situation. In 2018, Arkelian served as a Graduate Assistant at UTM. Arkelian was in charge of the specialists while assisting with the safeties. He scheduled and ran calisthenics, workouts, and drills while studying and providing film breakdown for the specialists. Arkelian identified the developmental needs of the specialists and mentored them to improve their knowledge and skills of their craft. He also provided analysis of the most efficient special teams units in the NCAA.Â
Arkelian was a combo specialist who holds three school records (LUPA), most notably his 80-yard punt against Alderson Broaddus University in 2015. After an All-Conference Rookie season and a sophomore season where he set records for most made field goals, field goal percentage, and longest punt, Arkelian transferred to The University of Tennessee at Martin. During two years as the starting punter at UTM, Arkelian finished with the 4th best career punt average in UTM history and 3rd best net punt in the nation in 2017, while also going 9 for 10 in all kick attempts. Throughout his career, Arkelian was a 4-year starter while never missing a game (43 consecutive) from 2014-2017.Arkelian is a native of Clovis, California, and graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania with a degree in History in 2016 and with his masters in Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2018.Â
