Byers comes to Huntington in 2019 as a defensive graduate assistant after four years as an assistant coach at Shepherd University.

At Shepherd, he served in numerous capacities, including linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator for three years, special teams coordinator and quarterbacks/wide receivers coach for two and director of football operations for one.

Byers was also Furman's defensive quality control in 2015 when the Paladins upset UCF 16-15.

He graduated from James Madison University in 2012 with a degree in kinesiology. While at JMU, Byers helped the Dukes upset No. 13 Virginia Tech, 21-16 in 2010, and to a Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 2008.

Byers and his wife Kelly reside in Huntington.
