Brooke Burkhammer enters her seventh season in 2022-23 in charge of the Marshall women’s golf team. She first took over as the interim head coach in the summer of 2016 and because of the team’s performance in the fall of 2016, the interim tag was removed and coach Burkhammer was in full charge of the program on November 29, 2016.

Burkhammer has led Marshall to four tournament victories and six runner-up finishes over her career. She has had a player honored as all-conference twice, one all-academic team member (Kerri Parks, twice), one all-tournament team honoree and one freshman of the year. Her players have starred in the classroom as well with 13 different student-athletes honored a total of 33 times on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (GPA of 3.00 or better) and 10 receive of the Conference USA Academic Medal for maintaining an overall GPA of 3.75 or better a total of 23 times. Torren Kalaskey was honored with the prestigious Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship award from C-USA in 2022. Burkhammer's players have been involved off the course as well in the community as she had two players honored by Conference USA with the Spring Spirit of Service Award (Torren Kalaskey - 2021, Jackie Schmidt - 2022).

In 2021-22, the Herd was able to return to a normal schedule, after having two abbreviated seasons, competing in 10 events. Her players totaled two top 10 finishes, and nine in the top 20. The team’s best finish of the season was fourth overall at the Pirate Collegiate Classic (Sept. 20-21), hosted by East Carolina. Marshall continued to improve during the Colonel Classic (April 4-5) as the team jumped up to sixth place in a field of 13 teams. Three players recorded eagles during the 2021-22 season Stormy Randazzo and Makena Rauch during the Grandover Invitational (Nov. 1-2) and Jackie Schmidt at the Conference USA Championships (April 18-20) at the PGA National Championship Course.

She carried Marshall through the difficult stretch of 2020-21, with the fall season canceled and playing in just five events in the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her players saw improvement throughout events during the abbreviated campaign and they continued to thrive off the course as well. Every member of the 2020-21 women’s golf team was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll with five earning the Academic Medal with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. Senior Kerri Parks was honored on the C-USA All-Academic Team by season’s end for the second time in her career.

Burkhammer led Marshall through the shortened 2019-20 season due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Herd played in just seven tournaments as the final three, including the Conference USA Championships, were canceled. Marshall began the season with its best finish of second place at the Golfweek Program Challenge (Sept. 9-10), as senior Shelby Brauckmuller (third) and junior Kerri Parks (tied for fourth) both finished in the top five. Marshall improved by 12 strokes in the third round as a team to finish second. Three times during the season – including the Golfweek Program Challenge – Burkhammer’s team saw an improvement of 12 or more strokes from the second to the third round, showing the resiliency that she has brought to the program.

For the 2018-19 season, Marshall reached new heights breaking into the Golf Stat Top 100 rankings for the first time. The Herd first appeared on Oct. 16, 2018, with its best ranking of the season at 81st. By the end of the 2018-19 season, Marshall was still in the Top 100 at 98th (April 16) and had stayed in the Top 100 all season long. Junior Shelby Brauckmuller was ranked individually in the Golf Stat Top 250 players across the country with a top ranking of 127th on Oct. 16. Brauckmuller was named second team All-Conference USA. Sophomore Kerri Parks, who was named Michigan Golf Association Women’s Player of the Year, finished the C-USA Tournament in second place and was named to the All-Tournament Team. It was the best finish in the C-USA Tournament by a Herd golfer in program history.

The Herd won the William & Mary Invitational (Sept. 9-10) and finished as the runner-up at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational (Sept. 3-4), the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational (Oct. 14-16) and the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate (March 17-19). At the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, Marshall was matched up against four opponents in the Top 100 and two teams in the Top 50. The Herd also had an individual win twice with Brauckmuller capturing the title at the William & Mary Invitational and tying teammate Parks for the top spot at the Maryb S. Kauth Invite. Marshall set program records with a team score of 283 (+3) in the second round of Princess Anne Invitational and an overall team score of 878 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. The Herd ended the season with a sixth place finish at the Conference USA Tournament, the best finish by a Marshall squad in team history. The Herd had a player finish in the top 10, 13 times throughout the season.

In the 2017-18 season, Marshall brought home two first place trophies from the Roseann Schwartz Invitational (Sept. 4-5) and the Shirley Spork Invitational (Oct. 9-10). The Herd had four players finish in the top 10 at the Roseann Schwartz and three in the top 10 at the Shirley Spork. Marshall finished as the runner-up in two more events at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic (Oct. 2-3) and the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate (March 18-20). Burkhammer coached her squad to a first, second and first place finishes to start the season. Individually, Marshall had players finish in the top 10, 13 times. Sophomore Shelby Brauckmuller was named third team All-Conference USA.

In coach Burkhammer’s first season leading the Herd (2016-17), Marshall brought home a first place trophy from the very first tournament of the year at the Northern Kentucky Classic (Sept. 12-13). The Herd had four players finish in the top 10. Marshall’s next best finish was third place out of eight teams at the Oyster Shuck Match Play (April 4-5). Eight times the Herd had a player finish in the top 10 with Sarfina Seretharan coming up with the best finish in second place at the Northern Kentucky Classic. Shelby Brauckmuller ended the year as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the first for a Herd golfer while in C-USA and the first freshman of the year award since 2004 in the Mid-American Conference.

July 19, 2016 Burkhammer was named the Interim Head Coach of the Women's Golf team. She first joined the Marshall women's golf staff as a volunteer coach in August 2015 and also served as the Director of Operations for the Marshall softball team through the 2015-16 season.

Burkhammer played collegiately for Campbell University from 2011-15. During her four years at Campbell, Burkhammer earned nine top 10 finishes, including winning the 2012 Golfweek Program Challenge. For the victory, her 54-hole total set a school record (68-75-68—211) with two of those rounds a new collegiate career best and was named Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Burkhammer was named to the All-Big South Conference Team in 2012-13 after concluding the season with a career-best five top 10 finishes, including finishing tied for eighth at the Big South Championship.

Burkhammer performed well in Big South Championships, finishing in the top 10 twice and helping the Camels win the conference title in 2012, 201 and 2015. Campbell advanced to the NCAA Regionals every year of Burkammer’s career and played in the NCAA Championships twice (2014 and ’15). As a senior, she finished the Big South Championship tied for fifth and was named to the All-Championship Team.

Burkhammer, was born in Huntington and was named the West Virginia Golf Association junior girls’ Player of the Year four times while starring at Cabell Midland High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Campbell University.
