Chip West joined Marshall Football in January 2026 as Cornerbacks coach, bringing over 25 years of collegiate coaching experience and a reputation as one of the nation’s top recruiters and player development specialists. Throughout his career, West has mentored numerous NFL Draft picks, All-Conference performers, and Freshman All-Americans while consistently building elite recruiting classes.
Most recently, West served as Cornerbacks Coach at Wake Forest (2023–2024) and Syracuse (2020–2023), where he developed All-ACC talent and NFL players, including Garrett Williams of the Arizona Cardinals. His prior stops include Marshall (2019), UNC Charlotte, Howard, Virginia, Old Dominion, James Madison, Fordham, and Colgate, as well as a graduate assistantship at West Virginia University.
A two-time ACC Recruiter of the Year (2011, 2014), West has been recognized nationally for his ability to build relationships and secure top-40 recruiting classes. His coaching philosophy emphasizes technical mastery, academic success, and personal growth for student-athletes.
West holds a Master’s in Athletic Coaching from West Virginia University and a Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems from Livingstone College. His postseason résumé includes appearances in major bowl games and championship runs, highlighted by the 2004 FCS National Championship with James Madison.
