Bartrum, another Thundering Herd Hall of Famer (2007), also returned to Marshall Football in 2021.
He was the Assistant Tight Ends Coach for the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons after serving the Meigs Marauders, first as the assistant 8th Grade Coach and then the program’s head coach for seven years.
Â
He also founded the Meigs Flag Football League in 2007.
Â
Bartrum played in the NFL for 13 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots and Eagles, where he caught six touchdown passes in addition to his long-snapping duties. He also appeared in two Super Bowls (1997 and 2005) and the 2005 Pro Bowl.
Â
Following his playing career, he spent 10 years with the Meigs Local Enrichment Foundation and nine as a Meigs County Commissioner.
Â
From 2004-06, he was a Union Representative for the NFL Players Association.
Â
Bartrum, who earned his Bachelor of Arts from Marshall in 1993, was a four-year member of the Dean’s List. He was also selected to the Southern Conference’s Academic Honor Room in 1992-93 and was the Thundering Herd’s Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior.
Â
One of the most prolific tight ends in Marshall history, Bartrum suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the 1990 season, but bounced back to win All-Southern Conference recognition in 1991 and 1992. He also garnered All-America honors as he caught 62 passes, including nine for touchdowns, in helping the Thundering Herd to the 1992 NCAA Division I-AA national championship. Bartrum also served as a relief pitcher for the Marshall baseball team during his time in Huntington.
