J.T. Mellendick was promoted in July of 2021 to the Assistant Athletic Director of Academics, Olympic Sports. He first joined Marshall University Athletics in February 2017 as an Athletic Academic Counselor for the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program.
As part of the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program, J.T. handles the day-to-day operations for the Baseball, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Softball, teams. Additionally, J.T. oversees the Buck Harless tutoring program. These responsibilities include the hiring and training of tutors, along with coordinating daytime and evening study halls.
J.T. previously served as a Graduate Assistant at West Virginia University, where he assisted their student-athlete development office with the day-to-day operations and learned the skills and abilities necessary for success in the field of student-athlete development.
A native of Baltimore, MD., J.T. earned his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University, coaching football and baseball in Morgantown. After undergrad, he earned his master’s degree in Coaching & Sport Education along with a Certificate in University Teaching from West Virginia University as well. J.T. resides in Huntington with his wife, Morgan.
