    2009
  • Class:
    1966
The thunder half of a mid-1960s Marshall backfield that also featured the lightning of fellow Hall of Famer Mickey Jackson, fullback Andy Socha (pronounced So-ha) led the Herd in rushing when the two were seniors in 1966. The Steubenville, Ohio, native was second in the Mid-American Conference in rushing with 765 yards that season, including a career-high 131-yard outing against Western Michigan and another 116-yard effort in a win over Kent State. Following his Marshall career, Socha was selected by the Washington Redskins in the 14th round of the 1967 NFL Draft, and would be the last Marshall draft pick for another 16 years. When his football days were over, Socha went on to a career in the publishing industry, rising to the position of Vice President and Editorial Director with McGraw-Hill. Socha was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
