The 2001 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year award and Marshall’s first NCAA Tournament berth the following tennis season capped off a career that saw Anna Mitina rewrite the Marshall and Mid-American Conference record books. The Sochi, Russia, native helped Marshall to two regular season MAC championships (2000 and 2002) and the 2002 league tournament title, landing the Thundering Herd its NCAA bid. Mitina was a first team All-MAC selection all four years of her career. When Mitina completed her Marshall playing days, she was the school record holder in all-time combined wins (195) and doubles wins (106), and was second in the books with 89 singles victories. Mitina was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
