Bill Craig was the starting catcher during the most successful three-year stretch, record-wise, in Marshall baseball history. With Craig behind home plate, the Herd went a combined 30-5 (.857) in 1933, 1934 and 1935, winning the Buckeye Conference title in each of the three seasons. As Marshall went 13-2 in 1934, Craig batted .424 (25-for-59) and belted four triples during a 15-game schedule. After completing his Marshall career, Craig went on to play professionally in the Boston Red Sox organization. Craig’s son, also Bill, pitched at Morehead State and was drafted by the Milwaukee Braves in 1965 and his grandson, Billy, would later pitch for Marshall and UCLA. Craig was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
