No. 20 Marshall Men’s Soccer Suffers Loss to (RV) Utah Valley

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 20 Marshall Men's Soccer team (2-1-2) dropped its first contest of 2026, 2-1, on Friday night in Huntington to (RV) Utah Valley, 2-1, at Hoops Family Field.
Francisco Guimares and Joao Alves each had shots on target in the first eight minutes of the contest, but Wolverine keeper Kolby Sessions made saves in the sixth and eighth minutes to keep the Herd off the board.
Marshall keeper Yurij Obert made a save just inside the 11th minute, but the shot by Jose Luis went directly to Naime Odeh who found Adem Arous as he made it 1-0 for the visitors.
MU didn't wait long to answer. At the 23:51 mark, Carl Romberg found Joshua Nugent. Nugent slotted home a shot past Sessions to even the score 2-2.
The Utah Valley defense cleared a shot off the line in the 30th minute as the score was even heading into halftime.
20 seconds into the second half, the Wolverines fired a shot that took a deflection off a Marshall defender for an own goal to see the Herd trailing 2-1.
The Herd had three shots on goal in the final 45 minutes, but Sessions made a pair of saves as the Utah Valley defense made another defensive save as MU fell.
Marshall outshot the Wolverines 20-9, including 8-3 in shots on goal.
