Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame

Bob Burgess
- Induction:
- 2004
- Class:
- 1962
One of the greatest rebounders in Marshall basketball history, Bob Burgess pulled down 973 missed shots during his three years on the Thundering Herd varsity while scoring exactly 1,000 points as well. His career average of 14.5 rebounds per game is second only to NCAA record-holder Charlie Slack in Marshall annals. The Blair, W.Va., native played during the era that freshmen were ineligible to play and led the team in rebounding all three years of varsity competition, receiving second team All-Mid-American Conference recognition in each of those three seasons. Upon conclusion of his Marshall career, Burgess was selected by the New York Knicks in the fifth round of the 1962 NBA Draft and went on to play several years of professional basketball in Europe, where he helped Real Madrid to a Champions Cup runner-up finish in 1963 and Champions Cup titles in 1964 and 1965. Burgess was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
