    2015
  • Class:
    1993
Nobody in Marshall history has started more football games than Chris Deaton, who was the starting offensive tackle in every game of his career – 56 in a row – from 1990-93 (Aaron Ferguson later matched the 56 straight starts from 1993-96). The Paintsville, Ky., product was an impact player for Coach Jim Donnan from Day 1, winning second team All-Southern Conference honors as a freshman in 1990. Deaton repeated as a second team all-league selection as a sophomore – when Marshall advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA national championship game – and was a first team all-conference pick as a junior and a senior. In 1992 Deaton and the rest of the offensive line paved the way for Marshall to set several new offensive records on the way to a 12-3 record and the school’s first I-AA national championship. As a senior he was a team captain and helped the team return to the title game as he won All-American honors and the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the Southern Conference. Deaton was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.
