David Coyle
- Induction:
- 2014
- Class:
- 1979
In two years as a Marshall wrestler, David Coyle won the 1979 Southern Conference championship in the 167-pound division as a senior after finishing as the league runner-up in the 177-pound classification as a junior. His league title in 1979 gave Coyle a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Along with twin brother Dan, the Coyles came to Marshall following outstanding junior college careers at Middlesex County College in their hometown of Sayreville, N.J., where Coyle had registered a 20-0 record and NJCAA district championship as a sophomore. All told, Coyle turned in a combined 24-5-1 record in his two seasons at Marshall, including his 7-6 victory over Appalachian State’s John Biller in the 1979 Southern Conference championship match. Coyle was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
