One of the most decorated athletes in Marshall history, Jessica Johnson and tennis doubles partner Ashley Kroh thrilled the Thundering Herd community at the 2004 NCAA Tournament by advancing all the way to the doubles championship match and garnering All-America honors. Johnson and Kroh defeated teams from Michigan, Northwestern and New Mexico before falling to a team from UCLA in the title match. The Sewickley, Pa., product and Maryland transfer led the Thundering Herd to three Mid-American Conference championships and, at one point, 34 consecutive victories against MAC opponents. She was honored as the 2002 MAC Newcomer of the Year and won all-league accolades all three of her seasons at Marshall. Johnson was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
