Keith Veney departed Marshall University as the most prolific three-point shooter in NCAA history, and his name still resides atop the all-time record book as the man who has made the most three-pointers in a single game. The Seabrook, Md., native averaged more than 30 points per game as a high school senior and played his first two seasons of college basketball at Lamar University, where he knocked down 168 threes in two seasons of competition.

Veney then transferred to Marshall, where he made 111 three-pointers as a junior during the 1995-96 season as he led the Thundering Herd in scoring with an average of 19.6 points per game and garnered second-team All-Southern Conference honors.

On Dec. 14, 1996, Veney established a new and still-standing NCAA record when he made 15 three-point shots on his way to 51 points as Marshall beat Morehead State 115-93 in the Cam Henderson Center. Veney received first-team all league honors as he helped Marshall to the Southern Conference Tournament finals, and he finished his career with an NCAA-record of 409 three-point shots, 241 of which he hit at Marshall.

Following his Marshall career, Veney played five seasons of professional basketball overseas and has run camps and clinics to train young basketball players.

Veney was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
