A two-sport standout at Marshall, Robin Vealey starred for both the baskeball and volleyball teams in the years shortly after the University added a women’s athletic department. The Elkview, W.Va., native was the first 1,000-point scorer in program history, logging 1,036 points for the Green Gals baskeball team. She helped the team to West Virginia Intercollegiate state championships in 1974, ‘75 and ‘76, leading the way to a 46-38 win over Morris Harvey College in the 1974 championship game with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Vealey also helped the volleyball team to state titles in 1972, ‘73 and ‘74. Following her Marshall career, she went on to receive a doctorate from the University of Illinois and a career as a professor of sports management and sports psychology at Miami (Ohio). Vealey was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
