Roger Jefferson

A three-year letterman in football and wrestling, Roger Jefferson was versatile and an iron man for the Marshall football team from 1960-62, playing center, guard and tackle on offense and linebacker and tackle on defense. On the mat, he finished second at the Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships in 1961 and fourth in 1963. Jefferson came to Marshall after an all-state career at Barboursville High School, and after graduating returned to the high school ranks and became one of the most successful high school football coaches in West Virginia, leading Capital High School to four Class AAA state titles. He was chosen as the 1990 West Virginia Coach of the Year by the state sportswriters association and was inducted into the West Virginia Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011. Jefferson was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
