Marshall Women's Basketball Signs Another Recruit

7/18/2000

Huntington, WV (May 4, 2000) -- Marshall women's basketball coach Juliene Simpson announced today that Catie Knable of Floyd Knobs, Indiana, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd beginning next season.

"She (Catie) is a versatile athlete with the ability to play on the perimeter and in the post," said Simpson. "Catie is a strong defender and her height will add a new dimension to our perimeter game.

Knable, a 6-2 power forward from Assumption High School in Louisville, Kentucky, averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season to lead the squad to a 28-3 record. During her four-year varsity career, Assumption posted an astounding 118-17 mark. A Kentucky All-Region Seven selection last season, Knable shined at the prestigious Pickerington National Invitational Tournament in Ohio and was named to the all-tournament team. Coach Simpson points out that her skills are equally impressive off the court.

"Catie is an excellent student," said Simpson. "She was named The Outstanding Senior at Assumption for her tremendous involvement in the community and service at the school."

Knable is the fourth player that the Thundering Herd has signed for the 2000-01 season. The power forward joins Latae Cooley, Cassie Hackworth and Becky Richter. Hackworth and Richter were teammates on the South team in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game while Cooley, a 6-0 forward from North Versailles, PA, committed to Marshall during the early-signing period in November.

The Herd finished the 1999-2000 season with an overall record of 8-20 and a 2-14 record in the Mid-American Conference. Both of those win totals were a two-fold improvement from the previous year. Marshall has all but three players returning from last season, including four starters.
