Marshall Will Face Cincinnati This Season

8/12/2000

Huntington, WV - Marshall University's head men's basketball coach Greg White announced today that the Thundering Herd will take on the University of Cincinnati on November 21, 2000, at the Shoemaker Center in Cincinnati. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 8:05 p.m.

"Bob Huggins and I are friends and have been working on this game for a couple of years and we're very happy that it is going to happen," said White. "We're very excited about the opportunity to compete with Cincinnati and their outstanding basketball tradition. The University of Cincinnati will be ranked in the top 10 this coming season and will provide a tremendous challenge for us."

"At Marshall, we recruit Ohio very heavily and this game will provide us with great exposure in that region," said White.

Cincinnati leads the all-time series with a record of 18-11. However, the Thundering Herd won the last meeting inthis series with a 77-50 victory in the 1983-84 season.

Marshall finished the 1999-2000 campaign with a record of 21-9 and featured First-Team All-Mid-American Conference selection Tamar Slay. Slay, a junior from Beckley, WV, led the MAC in scoring with 19.9 points per game. The Thundering Herd return four starters from last year's team, including an amazing 91.9 percent of its scoring.

Cincinnati posted a 29-4 record last season, including a perfect 16-0 mark in Conference USA. The Bearcats return one starter and six lettermen from last year's team. The 1999-2000 edition of the Bearcats featured Kenyon Martin who was the first pick in the 2000 NBA Draft.
