HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Basketball welcomed supporters to the Cam Henderson Center for Thunder on the Hardwood, an intimate evening celebrating the past, present and future of the Thundering Herd basketball programs.
The event achieved its goals in fundraising for both programs and building excitement for the 2026-27 seasons while giving attendees a unique opportunity to connect with coaches, student-athletes and special guests and catch a sneak-peak at new experiences available at Cam Henderson Center.
One of the highlights of the evening was the return of Marshall legend Mike D'Antoni, who spoke about what it means to come home to Huntington and how the beauty of Marshall is being part of something bigger than yourself.
"Coming back to Marshall is always special," D'Antoni said. "Once I got the call to go in the Hall of Fame, there's just so many people who contributed to getting you there. It's never about you; it's about everybody you encountered, and Marshall was a building block that started me on my way. It was four of the best years I've ever had in basketball."
Guests also had the opportunity to meet members of the 2026-27 men's and women's basketball teams and hear directly from the coaches of each program about preparations for the upcoming season.
"Thunder On The Hardwood was an incredible celebration of Marshall Basketball, community and the passion that brings us all together," Marshall Men's Basketball head coach Cornelius Jackson said. "We're extremely grateful for everyone who helped make it a success and can't wait to do it again next year. See you at the Cam! Go Herd!"
Jackson highlighted his team's offseason, including the student-athletes' impact in the Huntington community, involvement across Marshall's campus and a series of team-building activities designed to strengthen the group both on and off the court.
The evening also provided another opportunity to celebrate a historic accomplishment for Marshall Women's Basketball, led by head coach Juli Fulks. Members of the program were presented with their championship rings commemorating the Herd's WNIT Championship, providing one of the night's most memorable moments.
"We're really excited about this year's team and the season ahead," Fulks said. "Thunder on the Hardwood was a great reminder of how special the Marshall community is and how much their support means to our program. It was meaningful to celebrate last year's WNIT Championship together, and we're excited to continue building something our community can be proud of."
While the event was a success, there is still plenty of work to be done to elevate the Men's and Women's Basketball programs and ensure they have the resources to compete for championships. To aid those programs in their championship quests, click HERE.
A First Look at a New Premium Experience
Thunder on the Hardwood also gave fans an opportunity to preview the continued transformation of the premium experience inside the Cam Henderson Center.
Three premium spaces will provide Marshall Basketball fans with new ways to experience gameday throughout the 2026-27 season:
Courtside Lounge
The Courtside Lounge stole the show during Thunder on the Hardwood, serving as the pre-event reception area and allowing guests to see the new space come to life. Located just steps from the court, the lounge is designed to create an exclusive courtside hospitality experience throughout the basketball season.
Hartley Room
Fans were also able to see the transformation taking place inside the Hartley Room. Guests were impressed by the significant changes to the space and the amount of work that has gone into creating an upgraded hospitality environment inside the Cam Henderson Center. Hartley Room access is available as a season-long premium experience for Marshall Basketball.
Dough Daddy's Sky Deck
Dough Daddy's Sky Deck provides another unique way to experience Marshall Basketball, combining an elevated view of the action with a social, hospitality-driven atmosphere. The Sky Deck offers fans an experience unlike a traditional seat and adds another premium option inside the Cam Henderson Center.
The new spaces are part of Marshall Athletics' continued commitment to enhancing the fan experience while creating new ways for supporters to engage with the Men's and Women's Basketball programs.
