Tennis Team Turns in Solid Performance at Harvard

BOSTON, Mass.- Four of the Marshall Univeristy tennis players competed at the Harvard Invitational Tournament that was held this past weekend in Boston, Mass. Anna Mitina, Jessica Johnson, Meghan Skalsky and Joelle Good all competed in the tournament.

Jessica Johnson, who competed in Flight One, won two of her four matches to claim seventh place in the flight. In the first round she defeted Sarita Yardi of Dartmouth, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. She was defeated by Alexis Martire of Harvard, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. In the third round she was defeated by Jeri Gonzales of Rice University, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. In th fourth round she defeated Lyndsay Dynof of Boston University, 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Anna Mitina also competed in Flight One. In the first round she was defeated by Dynof of Boston University, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. In the second round Annie Goodrich of Rice defeated her, 6-3, 7-6. In her final round Carly Bashleben of Dartmouth defeated her, 7-6, 7-6.

Freshman Joelle Good competed in Flight Two Singles. In her first round of competition she was defeated by Elena deMendoza of Boston University, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Good defeated Sarah McNally of Dartmouth, 6-3, 6-3. She lost her third round to Amy Molden of Boston College, 6-0, 7-6. In the fourth round of competition Emily Yeomans of Boston College defeated Good.

Sophomore Meghan Skalsky claimed 13th place in the Flight Three Singles competition. In the first round Karen Chao of Rice defeated Skalsky, 6-2, 6-0. In the Second round Elisa Glas of Boston University defeated her, 6-1,6-1. In the third round Skalsky defeated Vanessa Fang of Boston University.
Skalsky defeated Hannah Bartell of Boston University, 6-3, 6-2 to claim 13th place.

In Flight One Doubles, Mitina and Johnson teamed up and in the won the first round by defeating Nida Waseem and Emily Hellberg of Boston College, 8-2. In the second round Sanja Bajin and Alexis Martire of Harvard defeated Mitina and Johnson, 8-5. In the final round Mitina and Johnson defeated Jeri Gonzales and Yasmin Fisher of Rice University, 8-4, to claim third place.

Joelle Good and Meghan Skalsky claimed the Flight Three Doubles competition. The first round was won by default. In the second round they defeated Emily Yeomans and Morgan Landes of Boston College, 8-6, To claim the flight they defeated Annie Goodrich and Erika Villalobos, 9-8 (8).
