Tennis Team To Compete in Regional Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University tennis team will compete in its final event of the fall season at the Omni Hotel East Regional Tournament.

The tournament will be hosted by the University of Pennsylvania and is open to over 90 teams in the East Region. Marshall qualified five singles players and three doubles teams in the 120 player event.

Jessica Johnson (sophomore/Pittsburgh, Pa.) will lead the team as the No. 5-8 seed in the singles. Johnson has already beaten three players which are in the national rankings. Alice Sukner (sophomore/Pittsburgh, Pa.) is seeded 16 and Danielle Hock (freshman/England) is seeded as No. 25-32. All of these girls are in the main draw of the tournament. Ashley Kroh (freshman/Louisville, Ky.) will be competing in the qualifying draw.

Anna Mitina (senior/Sochi, Russia) and Johnson will team up and compete in the doubles competition. The duo is seeded no. 4 in the doubles. Mitina will only compete in the doubles because of a foot injury.

The no. 1 seed in the tournament is Natalie Cahara from Old Dominon. She is currently the ranked #4 in the Intercollegiate tennis rankings.
