Women's Basketball Beats WVU Tech

Huntington, W. Va.--The Marshall University women?s basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 98-57 victory over Division II West Virginia University Tech Saturday afternoon. The Herd outscored the Lady Golden Bears 56-24 in the second half, cruising to an easy victory.

Four Marshall players tallied in double-figures, with sophomore guard Cassie Hackworth leading the way. The Pikeville, Ohio, native came off the bench to give the Herd 22 points on 9-of-22 shooting from the floor. Ida Dotson (Tombstone, Ariz.), who was named the MAC East Division player of the week last week, once again gave a solid efford. Dotson scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, and added six assists and six steals. Senior Au?Yana Ferguson (Louisville, Ky.) notched her second double-double of the year, scoring 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while also pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Andrea Fitzgerald (Memphis, Tenn.) also added 15 point in the winning effort.

Marshall?s pressure defense forced WVU Tech into 29 turnovers, with 18 of those coming in the second half. The Herd also outrebound the Lady Golden Bears 56-30, with 28 of those coming on the offensive end. Marshall also set their season high for steals with 15.

WVU Tech was led by Missy Cook, who scored 22 points. Taria Johnson was the only other player in double figures with ten.

The Herd return to action on December 5th against Navy for Jam the Cam, Marshall?s attempt to break the school?s and the conference?s on-campus single-game attendance record. That game tips off at 7 p.m.
