IDA Dotson Signs With Marshall Women's Basketball
5/18/2001
Marshall University's head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick announced today that Ida Dotson, a shooting guard from Tombstone, AZ, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Marshall next season.
"Ida is a great player who brings a scorers mentality to our program," Chadwick said. "She is a two-time Kodak All-American, who has done nothing but win in her career. She is a tough competitor who will make an immediate impact on our team."
Last season, Dotson (5-8) led Central Arizona Community College to a 30-4 record, and a berth into the NJCAA National Tournament. She averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a sophomore, while earning the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year Award in addition to her All-American laurels. As a freshman, Dotson led Central Arizona to a 31-3 mark as she averaged 15.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game. She also earned All-American and All-Conference honors, as well as Freshman of the Year. Central Arizona recorded a sixth place finish in the 1999-2000 National Tournament.
At Central Arizona, Dotson became just the eighth player in school history to record over 1,000 points in a career. She also earned team MVP honors as a freshman and sophomore.
Dotson is Marshall's women's basketball program's first ever two-time NJCAA Kodak All-American.
Dotson led Tombstone (AZ) High School to back-to-back state final four appearances as a scholastic player. In her senior campaign at Tombstone, Dotson averaged 21.4 and recorded a career-high 35 points in a single game.
