Women's Basketball Releases Schedule For 2001-02 Season

9/6/2001

Marshall University and first-year head coach Royce Chadwick have announced the release of their basketball schedule for the 2001-02 season. Highlights of the schedule include tournaments in Washington, D.C. (American University) and Fresno, California (Fresno State University), and a single game against Big 12 school Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in addition to a strenuous MAC schedule.

Chadwick, who came to Marshall after seven successful seasons at perennial women?s basketball power Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas, is extremely excited to get the season underway and to put the Thundering Herd women?s basketball program into the national limelight.

?We?re very excited to get the opportunity to play in the Washington, D.C. area, a hotbed of women?s hoops,? Chadwick said. ?And the trip to Fresno will get us much-needed exposure on the West Coast. Our team is craving national exposure, and the best way to do that is to take the team on the road.?

The Herd host non-conference foe Robert Morris on Tuesday, December 18th before heading to Richmond, KY for a tournament with Eastern Kentucky on December 29th and 30th. Eastern Division MAC champion Kent State comes to Huntington on Saturday, January 16th in the only meeting between the two teams. Other conference opponents that come calling to the Henderson Center are Northern Illinois, Ohio, Western Michigan, Miami, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, and Akron.
