MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Marshall's Tamar Slay and Central Michigan's David Webber put on a show, but in the end it was Webber's Central Michigan squad that emerged with an 88-84 victory over Marshall in Mid-American Conference basketball action Wednesday.
Slay, a six-foot-nine senior guard, scored 27 points on nine of 13 shooting from the floor. He was also six of eight from behind the three-point line.
Webber, last season's MAC Player of the Year, countered with 27 points of his own. He hit seven of 12 shots from the floor, was five of seven from behind the arc, and hit eight free throws on the night.
Central shot 55.6 percent from the floor (30-of-54) and was 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) from behind the three-point line. The Chippewas held a 28-24 edge in rebounding.
Marshall was even hotter from the field, nailing 29-of-48 for 60.4 percent.

The win improved the Chippewa record to 4-9 for the season and 1-4 in MAC action. Marshall is now 8-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Thundering Herd will look to rebound from the loss when it plays host to Buffalo Saturday in Huntington. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
